Lincoln Beginner Head

Lincoln Beginner Head, 2019.

Please find a short message from Paddy looking for comments on the Beginner Head at Lincoln

For the past few years the University of Lincoln Rowing Club has been trying to run a head race aimed at beginners but unfortunately it has not attracted many entries and did not run at all in 2018.

The University would like to continue running this competition if possible but would like to gauge the likely level of support from clubs and universities in the East Midlands.

The competition is aimed at rowers that have started rowing in the current year but could be opened up further to crews with low ranking points if there was enough interest. There are two divisions of 1500m each and rowers are encouraged to race twice if they wish.

The 2019 competition is scheduled for Sunday 24th November and will take place on the River Witham in Lincoln.

It would be very helpful if clubs and universities in the East Midlands could send any comments to head@lincoln-rowing.org.uk to let us know if they would be interested in supporting this competition or if they have any other suggestions that might encourage more crews to take part.

Many thanks Paddy Ibbotson President, Lincoln Rowing Centre

Great Coal Row 2017

Recreational rowers from the East and West Midlands and throughout the Thames Valley are today packing their lycra, their boats are loaded, riggers taped up, blades gathered and tide tables checked, all ready to travel south for the inaugural Great Coal Rows this weekend. Southampton Coalporters ARC are hosting their first recreational event with two Great Rows to celebrate the traditions of working people rowing in local waters.

The first row will see a procession of coxed 4’s joining in the Parade of Sail as part of Southampton Sailing Week before crossing the waters to lunch at Hythe Marina before rowing back to Coalporters. The second row on Sunday will see the boats row out into Southampton water up and along the River Hamble, before stopping for a well earned BBQ lunch and then rowing back to Coalporters. “Each row is a challenge” said Anne Hock, Event Organiser, “Distance, tides, currents and water conditions are very different for rowers used to canals and rivers, so for recreational rowers it’s going to be both a new experience and enormous fun.” Read more “Great Coal Row 2017”
